In addition, a dental explorer will be used to check for any tackiness on the surface of a tooth which may indicate tooth decay. X rays are often taken so that we can monitor problems under the surface of the tooth or between the teeth. A probe may also be used to determine the health of the gums and check for periodontal disease. Regular dental checkups are highly recommended.
