Dental Erosion Prevention & Treatment in New Jersey
Every dental patient wants to prevent dental erosion, but unfortunately, this common ailment is one of the few unavoidable things in life. The acids found in acidic beverages and citrus fruits—as well as the stomach acid that is found in vomit—will erode teeth over the years and cause an irreversible loss of the enamel that covers and protects teeth. How strong are these acids? Pretty strong—tooth enamel is the hardest tissue in the human body.
It is just about impossible to avoid those types of heavily acidic beverages and fruits, but at New Jersey’s Howell Dental Associates, we are determined to help patients manage their dental erosion and, whenever possible, avoid further damage to their teeth.
Dental erosion can manifest itself in a variety of ways, from relatively mild symptoms such as an increased sensitivity and/or discoloration of the teeth to more serious signs such as cracks or indentations in the teeth or even loss of teeth. The good news is there are several ways for patients to minimize the impact of tooth erosion.
Those looking to positively treat their eroding teeth should consider drinking and eating smaller amounts of citrus fruits and cutting down or entirely eliminating carbonated soda (which of course contains plenty of acid) from their diet. Eroding teeth may also be treated by using a softer toothbrush and simply rinsing the mouth out with water after drinking or eating products high in acidic content. Rinsing with a fluoride mouthwash or having antacid tablets can also help stop tooth erosion.
Dr. Goldberg and his staff have decades of experience in treating dental erosion and helping patients in NJ address the issues created by eroding teeth.
