Lumineers Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are a very easy way to permanently change your smile. Veneers can be used to make your teeth permanently whiter and to change the shape, length and size of your teeth. Each set is custom made to make the teeth look just like the patient desires. Veneers, also called porcelain veneers or laminates, are thin, custom made shells of tooth-colored porcelain designed to cover the front surfaces of the teeth. There are 2 types of veneers: traditional and drill-less.

Traditional porcelain veneers involve preparation of the outer tooth surface. About one-half to one millimeter of enamel is removed, an amount nearly equal to the thickness of the dental veneers being placed. Local anesthesia is usually used during the procedure. Once prepped, an impression is taken of the prepared teeth. The model is then sent to the dental laboratory for fabrication of the porcelain veneers. In about 2 weeks, the dental veneers are ready to be bonded to the patient’s teeth. Temporary veneers are usually made for the patient to wear during the 2 week fabrication period.

Drill-Free Dental Veneers

Drill-less veneers or “no-prep veneers” called Lumineers can be made in limited cases. In this procedure, there is no drilling or remodeling of natural tooth structure. An impression of the patient’s natural teeth is sent out for veneer fabrication. Not all patients are candidates for Lumineers non-prep veneers. There are many limitations based on the size, thickness and alignment of the teeth.
