Relaxation vs. Sedation Dentistry
We care for our fearful patients. At Howell Dental Associates, Dr. Goldberg practices relaxation dentistry. Relaxation dentistry is different than sedation dentistry in that we do not administer drugs, either orally or through an IV, to put patients in a state of semi or un-consciousness. Relaxation dentistry is not really a new concept, but it’s one that has helped millions of patients overcome their fears of going to the dentist and focus on maintaining proper oral health. Our relaxation dentistry techniques allow patients who otherwise would have been reluctant or even refused to go to the dentist to undergo all the preventive dental procedures and surgical treatments they need, without dread or fear.
Imagine relaxing, not being afraid, and accomplishing all your dental care in as little as one appointment. With relaxation dentistry, you'll be able to smile with confidence and chew food without pain. If you've been putting off years of dental work, relaxation dentistry can change your life. At Howell Dental Associates, Dr. Goldberg and his staff focus on providing their patients with quality dentistry in a comfortable, calm, quiet and relaxed environment. Patients are offered headphones with their choice of music, or they can bring their own Ipods to listen to. Paraffin (hot hand wax treatments) are available, as well. If the patient has fears or a dental phobia, nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) is available upon patient request. Nitrous oxide is an inhaled gas which provides anti-anxiety and helps to calm and ease patients during treatment. Dr. Goldberg can also prescribe anti-anxiety drugs such as valium, which can be taken before procedures for relaxation purposes. Used concurrently, valium and nitrous oxide can provide an advanced level of relaxation and anti-anxiety to help most phobic patients get through their treatment.
